Installing CyanogenMod 9 on your Orange Stockholm. [NOT Advised]

After reading this tutorial you will be able to install CyanogenMod 9 (abreviated CM 9) on your Orange Stockholm device. CM 9  is based on the latest Android operating system callled Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.0.3.

This ROM isn't a fully woking one so I do not recommend installing it on your device, it is mainly for demonstration purposes, only to show people that development of further O.S is possible and highly probable. This ROM is brought by subpsyke, a developer at [XDA - developers] and valuable forum member. This development is in alpha phase, hopefully in the near future a working version of CyanogenMod 9 will be released for the wider public.

So, the steps to install CM 9:

1st Step: Root your phone, after rooting, you should install ROM Manager. if you don't know how to do it check the following post: Root.

2nd Step: Open the ROM Manager application. Ensure that you have the latest ClockworkMod build by checking the version information in the Flash ClockworkMod Recovery section, and updating if necessary.

3rd Step: Select Download ROM, after that select psyke83. Select ClockwordMod 9, and press the Download button. You will see a popup: ROM Addons. Place a checkmark beside the entry for the Google Apps (even if you already installed the package on your current ROM).

When the download completes, you'll see a ROM Pre-Installation dialogue.

Select: Wipe Data & Cache, which means that everything will be wiped from your device, so it is advised to backup your ROM.

Press OK to allow ROM Manager to reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery and perform the installation. When installation finishes, the phone will automatically reboot.

Important things to know about CM 9:

Working:

  • Accelerated 2D rendering
  • Touchscreen (including multitouch)
  • WiFi
  • GPS
  • Sensors
  • Telephony
  • Mobiledata
  • Audio

Broken:
  • USB & wireless tethering
  • Video encoders/decoders (which also means that Youtube doesn't work)
  • Camera / video camera
  • Random crashes due to missing kernel feature (will be fixed later)

How to install CyanogenMod

With the help of this guide you will be able to install a Custom ROM called CyanogenMod (which is based on Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread)

This port may work on other Huawei phones, but only the U8160 and U8180 are confirmed to be 100% compatible thus far!

CyanogenMod 7.2.0-RC0 "u8160" Port
Latest release:
v1.5 2012.08.02
Latest Google Apps package: 20110828
This is a port of Cyanogen 7.2.0-RC0 (based on Android Gingerbread 2.3.7) for the Huawei U8160 and Huawei X1 (U8180). The current port status is stable - all hardware is working correctly, the only issue is that at volume level >70% there is a bass boost  (Fixed).

Pre-requisites:
Install the GooManager application from the Play store.
You need ClockworkMod, ROM Manager and a rooted phone to install. (For rooting info check this post)

Installation (updating from older CM7 build):
  • Open the GooManager application.
  • Select the Check for rom updates option.
  • Click on the notification for the available update and then click the Download button.
  • When the download finishes, enter recovery and install the update package followed by the Google Apps package.

Installation (first time/new users):
  • Open the GooManager application.
  • Navigate to psyke83 -> roms -> u8160.
  • Click on the build you wish to install from the list.
  • If needed, click the Download Gapps button to download the Google Apps package. The most recent (and most suitable) version will always be selected for you automatically.
  • Click on the Download button to download the rom.
  • Once the download(s) are complete, reboot into recovery and install the update package, followed by the Google Apps package.
  • Important: if you are updating from a stock or custom ROM, choose the data wipe option before rebooting.

CyanogenMod 7.2

Please note, that CyanogenMod will not "unlock" your phone.

    Overclocking your phone

Overclocking is the process when you speed up your phone's microprocessor. This can be achieved by various programs which can be downloaded from the Android Market.

Choose a program from the list ( I recommend OverclockWidget), install it. Add it to your homescreen as a widget (By pressing your screen until a list pops up, press the "Widgets" button, then find and add the "OverclockWidget"), set both markers to 600000 Hz.

Congratulations! Now your phone is functioning with a 600 MHz microprocessor. Notice the increase in performance.

Note that in order to use this function, your phone should be rooted. If you don't know how to do it, check the following post.
