About the Phone

The Orange Stockholm is a small Android smartphone also known as Huawei Ideos X1 U8180 available at Orange telecommunication operator at a budget price for those who were tempted to join the very active Android community, but were unable due to the large prices of the other devices. It's a full feature smartphone, with access to the Android Market, and also with a character. It was announced in Q2 of 2011, and currently is marketed in mostly European countries.

The phone is being made by the China-based company called Huawei which is specialised in making low-budget Android phones. The phone is equipped with a fully functional Android OS (version 2.2, codenamed Froyo) with a customised home screen and a large amount of Orange applications as expected on Orange branded phones nowadays.

The primary selling point of this phone is it's price, but also it's functionality, being compared to other top smartphones.

The standard version of the phone comes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, aGPS, FM radio and a 3.2 Mpx camera. The Stockholm can act as a Wi-Fi Hotspot, generating internet for your laptop, which can be done also by USB. (Bear in mind, that it might upset your budget)

The phone is sold with a Qualcomm MSM7225 chipset clocked at 528 MHz, which can be overclocked up to 600 Mhz, if you root it, increasing the performance of the phone a bit, also it has 256 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM. However, the device is produced in several other variations for other carriers.

Adreno 200 graphics co-processor offers a good browsing and multimedia experience.

In the UK, the phone ships with Android 2.2. Currently, Orange to do not ship with any later versions of Android, or offer an upgrade. It is possible to get a stable, clean, fully functional version of Android 2.3 via Custom ROMs (CyanogenMOD) on all versions of the phone, including the Orange Stockholm.
